📅 Mission Timeline & Phases

The Gaganyaan mission is planned in a series of systematic and carefully tested phases to ensure crew safety and mission success. Each phase builds upon the previous, progressing from technology validation to full human spaceflight.

  • Phase 1 – System Development & Testing: Includes the development of the Crew Module, Service Module, launch abort system, and life-support systems.
  • Phase 2 – Uncrewed Test Flights: Multiple uncrewed missions will be launched to test in-orbit performance, re-entry systems, and crew safety mechanisms. These include flights with humanoid robot Vyommitra.
  • Phase 3 – Crewed Flight: The final phase will launch a crew of Indian astronauts into low Earth orbit (~400 km altitude) for a mission duration of up to seven days.
  • Post-Mission Analysis: After the crew returns safely to Earth, data collected during the mission will help enhance future human spaceflight programs.
