💨 Life Support Systems

The Life Support Systems in the Gaganyaan Crew Module are critical for creating a safe and Earth-like environment inside the spacecraft. These systems maintain air quality, temperature, humidity, and waste management for the crew during spaceflight.

  • Environmental Control: Regulates oxygen and nitrogen levels, cabin pressure, and carbon dioxide removal for breathable air throughout the mission.
  • Thermal Management: Keeps the internal temperature within safe limits using thermal insulation, heaters, and radiators.
  • Humidity Control: Maintains optimal moisture levels to prevent condensation and ensure comfort.
  • Air Circulation: Fans and ducts continuously circulate air to avoid hotspots and maintain even atmospheric conditions.
  • Waste Collection & Hygiene: Systems are included for handling solid and liquid waste efficiently in a microgravity environment.
  • Fire Safety: Built-in smoke detectors, fire suppression modules, and non-toxic materials ensure safety in case of onboard hazards.

These life-support technologies are being indigenously developed and rigorously tested in collaboration with DRDO and other scientific institutions across India.
