🔧 Service Module (SM)

The Service Module (SM) is a crucial part of the Gaganyaan spacecraft. It supports the Crew Module during the mission by providing power, propulsion, thermal regulation, and other essential systems while in orbit.

• Power Supply: Solar panels and batteries generate and store electricity to power onboard systems during the mission.
• Propulsion System: Thrusters are used for orbital maneuvers, attitude control, and de-orbiting before re-entry.
• Thermal Management: Maintains temperature balance for both modules using radiators, insulation, and heat exchangers.
• Avionics Bay: Houses mission-critical electronics, navigation, and telemetry systems to maintain communication and control.
• Structural Design: Built to withstand launch loads and microgravity conditions, the SM is unpressurized and located below the Crew Module.
• Separation Mechanism: Before re-entry, the SM detaches from the CM and burns up during descent, while the Crew Module continues its journey back to Earth.
