🏋️ Training Facilities: India & Abroad
To prepare astronauts for the physical and psychological demands of space travel, ISRO has collaborated with leading space agencies and institutions, both in India and abroad. Training is divided into two broad phases: foundational training abroad and mission-specific modules in India.
🌍 International Training (Russia)
- Location: Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Star City, Russia.
- Focus Areas: Weightlessness (zero-gravity) simulations, centrifuge training (high G-forces), survival in space and emergency scenarios, and Soyuz spacecraft systems.
- Special Modules: Psychological conditioning, space environment adaptation, and medical training for self-care in orbit.
🇮🇳 Indian Training Facilities
- Location: ISRO’s Astronaut Training Facility (ATF) in Bengaluru.
- Capabilities: Virtual Crew Module simulators, neutral buoyancy pools for EVA (spacewalk) simulation, centrifuges for G-force exposure, and hypobaric chambers for high-altitude training.
- Support Agencies: Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM) for medical assessments and DRDO labs for advanced equipment testing.
This hybrid training approach ensures that Indian astronauts are thoroughly prepared to face the challenges of spaceflight with world-class skills, discipline, and endurance.
